R.M.S. Olympic sets sail for the seas and oceans
R.M.S. Olympic was a British transatlantic lining, sister ship of the Titanic, built at the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast. The keel for this vessel was laid in 1908, the launch took place in October 1910, and it entered service in 1911. Measuring 269 meters long and 28.3 meters wide, the giant could develop a speed of up to 24 knots. It was considered the largest ship in the world. For several days, it lost the title of the largest to the Titanic.
Olympic served passengers for over 20 years, also served as a military transport during World War I, and in 1918 sank the German submarine U-103.
After the war, it returned to passenger service, remaining a symbol of reliability and luxury until 1935.
