Description

Children will love following in the footsteps of the famously fast Mallard, using this high quality model! The magnetic system makes it easy to link with wagons, and it is compatible with any wooden railway.
History
Mallard was built in Doncaster in 1938 and designed by Sir Nigel Gresley as an express locomotive to power high-speed streamlined trains. It still holds the world speed record for a steam traction at 126mph!
Mallard was in service until 1963, when it was retired, having covered almost one and a half million miles (2.4 million km). It was restored to working order in the 1980's.
The National Railway Museum, York is the largest railway museum in the world. Its permanent displays and collections illustrate over 300 years of British railway history, from the industrial revolution to the present day. The NRM archive also includes a fabulous collection of railway advertising posters charting the history of rail.
