The M24 Chaffee tank was deployed to U.S. Army departments starting in 1944 to have, on the battlefield, a light tank capable of replacing the dated M3/M5 Stuart. The configuration of the M-24 was in fact very different from its predecessor and its design proved to be very valid so much that it can be considered one of the best light tanks ever made. Agile, robust and reliable it was, to be a "Light Tank", well armed with a 75mm M6 gun with 48 shots available. The tank armament was completed with two Browning 12.7mm machine guns. It was also effectively employed in close support activities to infantry and perform advanced reconnaissance tasks. During the conflict an effective co-operation of M-24 units with more armed armored vehicles such as the Sherman in its various versions was developed.
